Is this health insurance? No. Papaya Primary Care is not health insurance. We offer Direct Primary Care membership, meaning we contract directly with you to provide primary care services for a low monthly fee, much like a gym membership. Since urgent care, emergent care, and specialty services are often unpredictable, we encourage members to carry some form of health insurance to help pay for unplanned and catastrophic expenses.

Can I be a member if I have health insurance?Yes! Your health insurance can still be used at the pharmacy, for lab testing, at imaging centers, other health clinics, urgent care or the emergency room. You won't use your insurance at Papaya Primary Care - we don't bill any insurance plans. Our services are paid for by a low and predictable monthly membership. We have lots of members with insurance who choose membership because it saves them money. 80% to 90% of health care needs can be managed in primary care. Consider the cost of your premium, copay for appointments, the fee you get later after your visit, the cost for medications at the pharmacy, how much you are paying for blood work and imaging ... Papaya Primary Care may be a cheaper alternative. We provide primary care services to our members, and are not insurance. Since urgent care, emergent care, and specialty services are often unpredictable, we encourage members to carry some form of health insurance to help pay for unplanned and catastrophic expenses. Medicare & Medicaid Unfortunately, you are NOT ELIGIBLE for membership if you are eligible for or currently enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid or are receiving services through the Hillsborough County Health Care Plan (HCHCP) comprehensive managed care program.

Is this concierge care?Technically no, but it feels that way! Papaya Primary Care is much more affordable. Often Concierge providers charge an expensive yearly retainer (typically $2000 - $5000) and still bill your insurance. Both Concierge care and Direct Primary Care styles offer personalized care with improved access and direct communication between patient and provider. Here are the other ways we differ: We are not available 24/7 We don't offer home visits but we can see you virtually We can't see you in the hospital, we don't have privileges there
-
What are your hours?Appointments must be scheduled (walk-ins are NOT permitted). We are open: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Tuesdays virtual care only, no in person visits Closed Saturday and Sunday and Federal Holidays
